Four Mass. General doctors receive
McGovern Clinical Excellence Award
BOSTON - November 15, 2004 - Four Massachusetts General Hospital
(MGH) physicians were awarded the prestigious McGovern Clinical
Excellence Award from the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization
(MGPO), the physicians' organization of the MGH. Hasan Bazari, MD,
of the MGH Department of Medicine; Daniel P. Doody, MD, of the MGH
Department of Pediatrics; John Godine, MD, of the MGH Diabetes Center;
and Annekathryn Goodman, MD, of the MGH Vincent Obstetrics and Gynecology
Department were honored at the MGPO's 10th anniversary celebration.
This ceremony marked the first time in nearly 200 years of MGH history
that an award has been given to physicians for clinical excellence.
The award was named in honor of Brian McGovern, MD, a well-respected
cardiac arrhythmia expert at MGH after he was tragically killed
last year. The award recognizes physicians who go above and beyond
the call of duty, spend much of their time caring for patients,
make compassion the foundation of their practice and make significant
contributions toward making the MGH and MGPO community better places
to work and receive care.
Massachusetts General Hospital, established in 1811, is the original
and largest teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. The MGH
conducts the largest hospital-based research program in the United
States, with an annual research budget of more than $400 million
and major research centers in AIDS, cardiovascular research, cancer,
cutaneous biology, medical imaging, neurodegenerative disorders,
transplantation biology and photomedicine. In 1994, MGH and Brigham
and Women's Hospital joined to form Partners HealthCare System,
an integrated health care delivery system comprising the two academic
medical centers, specialty and community hospitals, a network of
physician groups, and nonacute and home health services.
