McLean and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospitals also rank high

BOSTON - July 2, 2004 - Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), the founders of Partners HealthCare, have earned spots on the U.S. News and World Report annual national hospital "Honor Roll." This year, MGH ranked third nationally, while BWH ranked twelfth. No other Massachusetts or New England hospital made the "Honor Roll."

Partners members McLean Hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital also ranked high in their specialty areas. McLean ranked fourth nationally in psychiatry, while Spaulding ranked eighth in rehabilitation and was again the only New England rehabilitation hospital making the list. In addition, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, which with Partners formed Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare, ranked fourth nationally in cancer.

"Our physicians, nurses and other caregivers deserve the credit - and our thanks - for this recognition," said James J. Mongan, MD, Partners president and CEO. "They give their all and the best possible care to our patients every day. We congratulate each and every one of them."

Of the hospitals included in the survey, MGH ranked among the top 10 in 12 specialties, including: cardiology, hormonal disorders, digestive disorders, geriatrics, gynecology, neurology/neurosurgery, kidney disease, orthopedics, psychiatry (#1), respiratory, rheumatology, and urology. BWH ranked among the top 10 in five specialties, including: cardiology, hormonal disorders, gynecology, kidney disease (#1), and rheumatology.
