The MGH is midway through its annual campaign for the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley and has received $117,000 toward its goal of $400,000. Employees who are currently contributing to the United Way via payroll deduction also will be counted toward the total and do not need to submit a new pledge form unless they wish to make a change. All staff are encouraged to consider making a contribution to this worthy organization during the campaign, which runs through Nov. 21.
While the true reward for those who donate is the difference their gift makes in the lives of those supported by the United Way, this year's campaign includes many benefits to thank employees for their generosity. Among these, the Caring Club, a program offered by the United Way, offers savings and discounts at a number of local and national retailers. In order to be eligible, employees must pledge a minimum of $3 per week or $13 per month ($156 annually or as a one-time gift) to a United Way Targeted Fund or Community Fund.
Additionally, the MGH already has awarded dozens of prizes to employee donors, and two more drawings are yet to take place. Grand prizes include a Liberty Hotel stay and an LG 50-inch HDTV. The earlier in the campaign a contribution is made, the more chances there are to win. Also, employees seen wearing their "I Gave to the United Way 2008" pins will be eligible to win on-the-spot instant prizes.
