FDA commissioner visits the MGH

The MGH recently hosted the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Andrew C. von Eschenbach, MD, at the hospital. Von Eschenbach learned about several MGH initiatives and technologies, including the medical device "plug-and-play" interoperability program, based at CIMIT and the MGH; the MGH Operating Room of the Future; and facilities of the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

Julian M. Goldman, MD, of the Departments of Anesthesia and Critical Care and Biomedical Engineering, coordinated the commissioner's visit. "We are honored that the commissioner created time in his busy schedule to visit the MGH," says Goldman. "He was especially interested in seeing some of our best practices for clinical technology innovation in the OR and Biomedical Engineering."
