Pastoral Care Week is an annual celebration observed across the United States to recognize spiritual caregivers and the ministry they provide. The MGH Chaplaincy recently acknowledged this special week Oct. 27 through 31 with a number of offerings, including a display table, a meditation labyrinth, guest speakers and music.
The Pastoral Care Week information table in the Main Corridor provided visitors with numerous giveaways – such as candy, brochures and literature about various spiritual and religious traditions – along with the music of a glass harmonica. A labyrinth walk, which was set up in the Thier Conference Room Oct. 21, provided a meditative space for spiritual reflection, while social and political humorist Jimmy Tingle regaled a packed O'Keeffe Auditorium later the same day.
As part of the MGH Chaplaincy's mission to meet the spiritual and religious needs of patients, families and staff of all faith traditions and of no religious affiliation, the annual Blessing of the Hands was held across the hospital. The blessing offered an affirmation and appreciation for the many tasks hands perform comforting and caring for others.
