walker gates and slavinMicrosoft Chairman Bill Gates joined Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH, and Bruce Walker, MD, director of the Partners AIDS Research Center (PARC) at MGH, for an impromptu visit Oct. 13 to learn about the HIV Elite Controller Study – a collaborative effort between academia and the community to study HIV-infected individuals who have been able to maintain viral loads at or below the limits of detection. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is a major supporter of the PARC research effort. Gates was briefed on the progress of the study and provided information about how the research might provide key insights into the development of an HIV vaccine.
