Fresh from the farm on Revere Beach

This summer, residents of Revere have been flocking to the beach for more than just sand, sun and waves. On Thursdays, the seaside town is host to the Revere Beach Farmers Market. Celebrating its third year, the market is a community effort sponsored by the Revere CARES program of the MGH Revere HealthCare Center; the Revere Beach Partnership; the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation; the City of Revere; Revere First; East Boston Savings Bank; and the Women, Infants and Children nutrition program.

The market, however, is more than just a one-stop shopping destination. Throughout the season, local chefs periodically host cooking demonstrations, and MGH nutritionists also are available to teach visitors how to cook traditional family recipes in a healthier way.

"Eating more fruits and vegetables is the key to healthy nutrition, and the Revere Beach Farmers Market makes this very easy," says Roger Pasinski, MD, director of MGH Revere. "People were smiling as they chose their apples, zucchini and other fresh produce from a selection that was picked just that day."

The market is open every Thursday from noon to 6 pm through October 30. For more information, contact Mary Ann Zizzo at (617) 485-6156.
