Summer safety health fair
The MGH Chelsea HealthCare Center will host its 11th annual Summer Safety Health Fair June 7, from noon to 3 pm at 151 Everett Ave. The fair will include hula hoop and coloring book contests, bicycle and helmet safety checks, and tips on home, water, fire, sun and car safety. Retirement planning events
The MGH will host a number of retirement planning events. Tax-sheltered annuity (TSA) fairs will be held June 4, from 7:30 am to 4 pm in the Thier Conference Room and June 5, from 9 am to 2 pm at CNY, Building 149, Center Lobby. Financial planning seminars will be held June 4 in the O'Keeffe Auditorium at the following times: 9:15 to 10:15 am, Vanguard; 12:15 to 1:15 pm, TIAA-CREF; and 2 to 3 pm, Fidelity. MGH Cash Balance Retirement Plan and Retiree Medical Sessions will be held June 6, from 7:30 to 8:30 am in the O'Keeffe Auditorium; June 11, from 12:15 to 1:15 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium; June 11, from 2 to 3 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium; and June 12, from noon to 1 pm at CNY, Building 149, Room 2204. Senior HealthWISE events
MGH Senior HealthWISE will host the following free events: hypertension screenings June 2, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at Hill House, 127 Mt. Vernon St., and a film screening of "Sage: Stories of Incredible Boston Seniors" June 5, from 11 am to noon in the Haber Conference Room with guest speaker Mary Ann Hardenbergh of Action for Boston Community Development. Global health seminar
The MGH Center for Global Health and the MGH Cancer Center will co-host "Strategies for Healthcare Financing in Under-Resourced Environments" June 7, from 9:15 to 10 am in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Community Benefit event honoring MGH mission
The MGH Community Benefit Program will sponsor a special event June 3, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH, will host the event, John Auerbach, commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, will be the guest speaker; and keynote speaker David Satchel, MD, PhD, former U.S. surgeon general, will discuss "The Role of Academic Medical Centers in Improving Community Health." Wellman Center lectures
The MGH Wellman Center for Photomedicine will host the following lectures: "Coherent Imaging Technologies for Guiding and Monitoring Therapies" June 3 with Benjamin Vakoc, PhD, of the Wellman Center; and "Optical Analysis of Tissue Mechanics: Applications in Evaluating Atherosclerosis" June 5, with Seemantini Nadkarni, PhD, of the Wellman Center. Collins Lecture
As part of the 2008 Collins Lecture Series, the MGH Department of Radiation Oncology will sponsor "Big Pharma: Marketing and Profits" June 3, from 5 to 6 pm in the Bigelow Conference Room on White 4. Suit, MD, DPhil, of MGH Radiation Oncology, will host the lecture, and Marcia Angell, MD, of Harvard Medical School and the former editor-in-chief of the New England Journal of Medicine, will be the guest speaker.
