Karleen Habin, RN, nurse supervisor and clinical research nurse specialist for the Breast Oncology Research Program in the MGH Cancer Center, has been named a recipient of the 2008 Lane Adams Quality of Life Award from the American Cancer Society. The award recognizes individuals who have made a difference through innovation, leadership and excellence in providing compassionate, skilled care and counsel to people living with cancer and their families. An awards ceremony was held May 9 in Los Angeles.
Bonnie Michelman, director of MGH Police, Security and Outside Services, has been named the 2007 Director of the Year in the health care category by Campus Safety magazine. Recognizing security professionals who routinely go above and beyond the call of duty, the award also commends outstanding leadership skills, ingenuity, selflessness and overall achievement. A member of the MGH since 1991, Michelman leads a more than 300-person department with four main units: operations, security systems and technology, special investigations and outside services. Michelman also was recently elected president of the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety, an organization dedicated to professionals who lead security and safety programs in health care institutions.
