- Racking up the miles for the MGHfC
After months of dedicated training, more than 100 MGH staff and supporters laced up their sneakers and joined thousands of fellow athletes in running the 112th Boston Marathon April 21. Many of these runners helped raise thousands of dollars for pediatric cancer and cystic fibrosis programs at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC).
- The MGH is fit-friendly
For the second consecutive year, the American Heart Association (AHA) has honored the MGH with its Fit Friendly Award. The distinction recognizes organizations across the United States that champion the health of their employees and create a culture supporting physical activity and good nutrition in the workplace.
- LMR training courses expanded
More members of the MGH community now can take advantage of specialized training classes for the Longitudinal Medical Record (LMR). The MGPO LMR Training Team has expanded the courses to all MGH staff with access to the LMR, providing hands-on, practical training for people at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.
- Bowditch Prize awarded to Parrish
At the MGH, medical and scientific innovations take place almost on a daily basis. Likewise, as the costs associated with providing optimal care constantly increase, the hospital's management and leadership work to ensure that services are delivered as efficiently as possible.
- Advocating for children's health care
More than 60 pediatric residents from Boston area hospitals — including the MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC) — gathered at the Massachusetts State House April 8 to advocate for children's health care at the 3rd annual Pediatric Residents and Fellows Day.
- In memoriam: Jerome H. Grossman, MD
Jerome H. Grossman, MD, an expert in health care policy who in the 1970s helped the MGH pioneer the use of automated medical records, died April 1. He was 68 years old.
- Medical Service Blood Drive Challenge begins
The MGH Blood Donor Center will be the scene of some friendly competition when it kicks-off the Fourth Annual Medical Service Blood Drive Challenge May 1.
