Dr. Allan Walker with Visiting Professor Dr. Valarie Verhasselt of the Universite de Nice Sophia-Antipolis (UNSA). As part of the Mucosal Immunology and Biology Research Center's (MIBRC) weekly seminar series, Dr. Verhasselt presented a talk in April titled "Oral tolerance in neonates: mechanisms and possible therapeutic implications."
A member of the Faculty of Medicine and of Sciences at UNSA, Dr. Verhasselt teaches Immunology and leads the UNSA "Immune Tolerance" team in Nice, France. During her visit, Dr. Verhasselt met with members of the MIBRC and other faculty in the Department of Pediatrics, and presented the weekly Immunology Rounds at MGHfC.
Under the supervision of individual HMS faculty members, students join the MIBRC to study Molecular Cell Biology and participate in individual research projects. Dr. Bryan Hurley directs the program, which includes 10 summer students and several year-long medical students. Pictured above are students from the summer 2013 program.
