Dr. Michelle Conroy, received her MD from University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed her Pediatric residency at Mass General Hospital. She spent an additional year as a Chief Resident. After that, she joined the Allergy and Immunology Fellowship at MGH. Her area of study in Dr. Shi’s laboratory at the Mucosal Immunology Lab is cytokine regulation of epithelial barrier function in the context of allergic disorders. We believe that disrupted barrier function can act as an initiation step in allergy generally. It may also serve to explain the atopic march or the sequential clinical manifestation of atopic dermatitis, food allergy, and asthma. We are currently developing models to test these hypotheses.
