Ilse Broekaert, MD

Dr. Ilse Broekaert obtained her M.D. degree from Ruhr University, Bochum, Germany and has completed three years of pediatric residency at the Munich Children’s Hospital before obtaining a Fulbright fellowship in 2004 to study intestinal host defense as a Fellow in Dr. Walker's Developmental Gastroenterology Laboratory at the Massachusetts General Hospital for Children. Her research project involves defining the molecular mechanism of probiotic protection against pathogen invasion in the zinc deficient immature gut. She plans to return to Germany after a Pediatric GI fellowship to complete her residency in Pediatrics and then pursue an academic pediatric career in Munich.
