Women In Internal Medicine at MGH
The MGH Department of Medicine Residency Program supports and facilitates the advancement of women physicians in training with the aim of creating future women leaders in medicine. Women play a key role in the leadership of the Residency Program with several women faculty serving as Associate Program Directors (APD). Working with the MGH Office of Women's Careers (OWC), the Medicine Residency Program launched a Women In Medicine Mentorship Initiative in 2007, matching women residents with faculty members who provide guidance on career development as well as discuss important issues to women physicians such as work-family balance. The committee has also been instrumental in drafting the Department of Medicine Maternity Leave policy and obtaining accessible lactation rooms for residents. The mentorship program sponsors networking events and speakers, and strategizes how to strengthen the contribution of women in the Department of Medicine as well as the field of medicine as a whole.
