Interns on the Ellison service do not take overnight call with a night float resident taking overnight admissions and cross coverage of the patients. The day interns admit until about 6 PM and usually depart by 9 PM on their admission day. The interns follow their own panel of patients daily, interact with the attending of record and manage the patients with supervision from the senior resident. Overnight admissions are passed onto the team in the morning under the supervision of the senior residents. Work rounds are followed by multidisciplinary rounds with nurses, case manager, social worker and physical therapist. Dedicated teaching rounds follow from 11 AM until 12 noon. Medical students are actively incorporated into both patient care and education.
