About the URM Medical Student Mentorship Program. The purpose of the Mentorship Program is to provide structured professional and social support, as well as guidance, during the early stages of our URM student careers from Harvard Medical School. It is supported by the HMS Office of Recruitment and Multicultural Affairs, the MGH Multicultural Affairs Office, the BWH Office for Multicultural Faculty Careers under their Center for Faculty Development and Diversity, the Diversity and Cultural Competency Council (DCCC), Children's Hospital Boston, and the Office for Faculty Development and the Shapiro Center , Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Mission and Objectives:
- To develop and maintain a formal physician/researcher
and URM medical student mentoring program in Massachusetts as a model
for other regions of the United States
- To foster mentoring relationships between URM HMS medical
students and physicians or researchers in academic and private institutions
- To establish a communication network between medical
schools, government and industry to enhance opportunities for URM
medical students
- To develop organized advocacy groups among students
and faculty across academic medical institutions

Dr. Mankey was appointed as Assistant
Dean for Student Affairs at Harvard Medical School (HMS), and
Assistant Director of the Office of Recruitment and Multicultural
Affairs at HMS. In this role, she serves as a student liaison
between Harvard Medical School and the MGH Multicultural Affairs
Office as well as the other Harvard-affiliated hospitals |
