In 2000, MAO established the Organization of Minority Residents and Fellows (OMRF) as an inter-departmental forum for URM trainees at MGH. The OMRF is led by residents and/or fellows who are elected by their peers. In May 2008, the OMRF Executive Board was restructured to include three new officers: Education and Career Development Officer, Public Relations Officer and Community Outreach Officer.

Mission Statement

The OMRF is an inter-departmental forum for URM trainees at MGH. The OMRF is led by residents and fellows who are elected by their peers, and plays a crucial role in the professional and personal development of URM residents and fellows. This organization assists with residency recruitment, and offers opportunities to socialize and network among peers, enhance career development and become involved in the larger Harvard and Boston communities.

OMRF Initiatives

  1. Residency recruitment
  2. "Ins and Out" Program. This program is designed to provide career and leadership development to residents and fellows through quarterly workshops and seminars.
  3. Social and Networking Events. OMRF sponsors monthly networking opportunities among residents and fellows.
  4. Mentorship. The OMRF members mentor students in the SRTP and the URM MS Mentorship Program. Senior residents also provide peer mentoring and guidance to interns through various MAO resident programs.
  5. Community Service. The OMRF members volunteer in the greater Boston community, including in health fairs and with highschool students through community programs organized by MAO and the Community Benefits Office
