Dr. Goff is Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. In addition, he is Director of the Schizophrenia Program of the Massachusetts General Hospital and Medical Director of the Freedom Trail Clinic at the Erich Lindemann Mental Health Center, all located in Boston.
Dr. Goff earned his BA in humanities at the University of California in Berkeley, and his MD at the University of California School of Medicine in Los Angeles. After graduating, he completed his internship in internal medicine at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and his residency in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. . He was a research fellow at Tufts-New England Medical Center prior to developing a medical-psychiatric inpatient unit at New England Medical Center. As Director of the MGH Schizophrenia Program, Dr. Goff oversees research projects in pharmacology, neuroimaging, cognitive behavioral therapy, and genetics. Dr. Goff has pioneered the development of glutamatergic agents in the treatment of schizophrenia and is a leader in the study of medical morbidity and drug side effects in individuals with schizophrenia.
Dr. Goff has authored more than 100 articles concerning schizophrenia and related topics.. He is a recipient of a Faculty Scholar Award in Schizophrenia and a Mid-Career Development Award presented by the National Institute of Mental Health and an APA Kempf Award for mentoring in psychiatric research. He is a member of the American College of Neuropharmacology.
