Creating the Ether Dome Painting
Donning elegant period costumes, 20 MGH surgeons and physicians and a sprinkling of others re-enacted the first public demonstration of ether used as anesthesia in the place where the event actually occurred. The history of ether and anesthesia re-enactment allowed artists Warren and Lucia Prosperi to take dozens of photographs in preparation for the Ether Dome painting.

Mass General Nursing Photo Essay
The MGH Nursing photo essay is designed to capture, preserve and reflect on the evolution of clinical nursing practice at MGH from 1821 through the 1960s. This gallery of selected photographs and texts will be displayed here on a temporary basis. Eventually, this collection will be displayed permanently in The Knight Nursing Center for Clinical and Professional Development.
