Crescent Moon
by Libby Taft, whose 25-year-old daughter has suffered from eating disorders for over seven years
Like the moon, my daughter's body
waxes and wanes.
Anorexia and bulimia have governed
the ebb and flow of her weight
for six years.
We leave the restaurant
and see in the evening sky,
a skinny, fingernail moon,
three days old.
The planet Venus hovers
over the concave body,
as if to pour light into it
and make it full.
