Matina S. Horner Summer Research Fellowships
2010 Application

The Matina S. Horner, Ph.D. Summer Research Fellowship Program is designed to mentor young investigators in the field of eating disorders. Fellows accepted into the program will complete a 10-week independent research project at the Harris Center. In completing the project, our Fellows receive supervision and mentorship, participate in current research activities, and meet weekly with our staff.

Fellowships will be awarded to outstanding applicants who submit a proposal that describes an original research project or builds on one of our ongoing projects. Applicants should design a research proposal so that the project can be completed within the 10-week fellowship period. Please click here to view past project titles.

It is generally not feasible to collect data during the 10-week period unless the project has been thoroughly designed and a subject pool has been identified and IRB approval obtained prior to the start of the fellowship. Projects that involve writing a literature review, analyzing previously collected data, writing up a research report from data already analyzed, or participating in a Center project are the most feasible to complete during the 10-week period. Previous awardees have also worked on masters' theses or dissertations. Some examples of ongoing projects at the Center are:
  • Comorbid illnesses in women with eating disorders
  • Anorexia nervosa and osteoporosis
  • Diagnostic classification of eating disorders
  • Neuropsychological functioning and neuroimaging in eating disorders
Should applicants wish to participate in an ongoing Center project during the Fellowship, they should include in the application an explanation of interest in or experience with the particular topic.
