1. Women in Medicine Month: "The View from Above the Glass Ceiling" on Sep 18-
    Faculty Development Seminar: Leadership Series

In commemoration of Women in Medicine month, the OWC announces the 16th Annual Women in Medicine Month celebrating women faculty.

"The View from Above the Glass Ceiling"

The term, “glass ceiling”, was first coined in 1984 and yet almost 30 years later many women still struggle in their career climb. Dr. Thorndyke will discuss what issues women leaders face in the executive suite and how they are similar and different from those that men face. Drawing on her career experience, Dr. Thorndyke will share how to avoid some of the common pitfalls that can get in the in the way of women’s success.

2. CHECK IT OUT! The OWC Women's Careers Faculty Forum-

The MGH Office for Women's Careers has launched a new internet forum for women faculty. We would like this to be a space for all MGH women faculty to read and possibly share your own experiences as a woman in academic medicine. This month's installment of MGH Dr. Mom talks about sleep - for your kids and yourself!

3. "Meet and Greet" Networking Breakfast with Dr. Karen Carlson on Oct 22-
     Faculty Development Seminar: Networking Series

This is an opportunity to hear from Dr. Carlson about her career path and to gain some insights to help with your own career trajectory. You can also learn more about the Office for Women's Careers and spend some time with other women faculty colleagues.

1. Achieving Independence from Your Mentor on Sep 11-
    Presented by the Office for Research Career Development

Is it necessary to "cut ties" with your mentor in order to convince funding agencies, journal editors and colleagues that you are independent? In most cases the answer is no. In this panel discussion you will learn how others have navigated the path to an independent faculty position while continuing collaborations with their mentors. Geared toward junior faculty, this discussion will help you form your own plan to achieve independence with positive results.
