1. Mass General Postdoc Association Annual Meeting on Jan 22-
    Presented by the Mass General Postdoc Association

The MGPA Annual Meeting is an opportunity for all MGH postdoctoral fellows to learn more about the postdoc association, network, and learn valuable information to help your career. The 2014 meeting will feature:
  • Welcoming remarks and career development advice from Professor Dennis Brown, PhD
  • Presentation of the inaugural Postdoc Recognition Awards
  • Career Advancement panel discussion: Making the most of your MGH postdoctoral fellowship
  • Networking time with speakers, MGPA leaders and the postdoc community

2. Responsible Conduct of Research, Mentoring: Responsibilities of Mentors &
    Mentees on Jan 23-

    Faculty Development Seminar: Responsible Conduct of Research Series

What should you look for in a good mentor? When do you stop needing mentors? How do you make the transition from mentee to mentor? In this interactive seminar, we will discuss the responsibilities of mentors and mentees, and the characteristics of good mentoring relationships. This seminar will help you get the most out of this critical aspect of your career development. Please note that this is a brown bag lunch session. The ORCD will provide drinks and we encourage you to bring your own lunch.

4. Grant Writing Lunch Series Part II: Finessing the A1/Resubmission Introduction on Feb 6-
    Faculty Development Seminar: Communication Series

Most NIH grant applications require a resubmission and second review before being funded. In the A1 resubmission, the Introduction is your opportunity to address the original reviews. This seminar will discuss how you can:
  • Interpret reviewers’ comments accurately
  • Address weaknesses and reposition your grant for success
  • Respectfully rebut reviews that are inaccurate
  • Succinctly summarize how the grant has improved

Our annual Spring event is right around the corner! The Poster Celebration recognizes the excellent research being done by MGH postdoctoral fellows. Plan now to submit your abstract, present a poster and be eligible for a cash prize.

1. "Meet and Greet" Networking Breakfast with Dr. Galit Alter on Feb 25-
     Presented by the Office for Women's Careers

Galit Alter, PhD, joined MGH in 2003 as a research fellow. In nine years she advanced to the faculty rank of Associate Professor of Medicine, and in 2013 she won a prestigious MGH Research Scholar award. This is an opportunity to hear from Dr. Alter about her career path and to gain some insights to help with your own career trajectory. You can also learn more about the Office for Women's Careers and spend some time with other women faculty colleagues.

2. CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Louis V. Gerstner III Research Scholar Awards due on Feb 1-
    Sponsored by the MGH Department of Psychiatry

This is a new annual, competitive grant award geared to newly or recently trained psychiatrists, psychologists and other MDs or PhDs who seek to pursue careers as clinician-researchers in the areas of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and related disorders, especially substance abuse, but also in anxiety, bipolar disorder and depression. Funded by The Gerstner Family Foundation and other donors, the Award Program honors the memory and the research interests of the late Louis V. Gerstner III. A minimum of two 2-year awards yearly will be granted.
