Minority Faculty Development Awards

The Minority Faculty Development Award Program (MFDAP) was established in 2002 by the Multicultural Affairs Office, the Executive Committee on Research, and the MGH President's Office. The MFDAP is designed for MGH appointed faculty with five years or less post-training experience and fellows to help them in their transition to junior faculty positions. These awards include both a grant and loan forgiveness component, and are separated into two categories depending on the academic career track of the applicant:

  • The MGH Physician-Scientist Development Award - provides transitional grant funding which will aid the applicant (fellow or junior faculty) in becoming an independent investigator. See the 2007 PSDA Announcement for eligibility and application requirements.
  • The MGH Clinician-Teacher Development Award - provides funding support for an educational/community project to a junior faculty member, fellow, or graduating resident pursuing the clinician-teacher track. See the 2007 CTDA Announcement for eligibility and application requirements.

Each of these awards offers a total of $120,000.00 in grant and loan repayment support over the course of four (4) years. Although eligibility requirements for each award may differ, a key requirement for both awards is the department Chair's commitment to retain the candidate as faculty, if not already a faculty member, and to support and develop the applicant's career at MGH. We hope you will help identify eligible candidates in your departments and encourage them to apply to either of these two awards. The application deadline for both awards is Thursday, February 15, 2007. The Award recipients will be announced in March 2007.
