1. Message from Harvard Medical School regarding promotion criteria and CV -
A note to update you regarding the progress in implementing the new Harvard criteria for promotion and the new CV format. As you know, all promotion cases started after October, 2008 are being considered by the new criteria. At this time, approximately 50% of the cases seen by the Promotions, Reappointments and Appointments Committee are being evaluated by the new criteria. The first promotion to full professor using the new criteria will be completed this month. The HMS Office for Faculty Affairs anticipates that by the fall, virtually every case for promotion will be considered by these metrics. For information about the criteria, please consult http://facultypromotions.hms.harvard.edu/. Please draw your attention to the section labeled “Administrative Resources for Departments” (http://facultypromotions.hms.harvard.edu/#). In this section, you will find:
- Templates for soliciting letters
- A template for preparing the Department Head letter
- Checklists for documenting search procedures
- Information regarding letter requirements for each rank and type of appointment
The new Harvard CV format is specifically designed to capture achievements recognized by the new criteria. The website for the new CV can be found at http://cv.hms.harvard.edu/. Though several documents are still to be added, faculty can now access the Word-based templates for preparing their CVs, including a template with preformatted tables and hyperlinks to instructions for each section. An e-mail will be sent to alert all faculty as to the availability of these templates that will assist them in preparing the CV.

2. New Tools for the Mass General Clinical Research Community -
On Clinical Research Day 2009 the Clinical Research Program launched the following tools for the Mass General Clinical Research Community:

Here, you can easily search and register for courses, find course recordings and handouts, and join online communities for Clinical Investigators and Study Staff. For more information, please see http://hub.partners.org/crp/

- Adverse Event (AE) Notification Tool: With this new tool, auto notifications via pager and email can be set up to alert you/your team when a subject presents to the ED or is admitted to the hospital.
