Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) for Monitoring of Neurological Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Patients with Acute Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke
We aim to develop a novel form of imaging, electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), to assess and monitor acute stroke and other forms of brain injury. EIS relies on non-invasive measurement of conduction of minute currents. It will be safe, fast, and portable for rapid triage of acute neurological deficits or for continuous bedside monitoring after known brain injury. We seek to confirm our prediction that hemorrhage and infarction will be distinguishable by of their effects on tissue conductance.
