Longitudinal Studies of Persons With and Without Psychoses: Hormones, Memory, & Sex Effects in Illness Progression in Schizophrenia |
| Abstract |
Memory dysfunction and associated abnormalities in prefrontal-hippocampal (PFC-HIPP) circuitry are key vulnerabilities in schizophrenia (SZ). This study focuses on the roles of gamma aminobutyric acid, glutamate and brain-derived neurotrophic factor in SZ progression, domains associated with memory dysfunction and PFC-HIPP circuitry. Investigation of the trajectory of sex on levels of SZ progression can provide insights into the timing of potential differential hormonal interventions for persons with SZ. |
