Rachel
J. Ackerman

Rachel is a clinical research coordinator for
the PHARMGen study in the Florez lab. She studied
Biochemistry and Spanish at Bowdoin College
before graduating in 2009 and she plans to enter
medical school in the fall of 2011. In her free
time, Rachel enjoys sailing on the mighty Charles
River.
Liana Katz Billings

Dr. Liana Billings is a fellow in endocrinology
at Massachusetts General Hospital. She joined
Dr. Florez’s lab in the Summer of 2009.
Her current research interests involve pharmacogenetics,
genetic pleiotropy among endocrine diseases,
and exploring the influence of rare genetic
variants and dietary composition the development
of type 2 diabetes. She is a current student
in the Scholars in Clinical Science Program
at the Harvard Medical School where she anticipates
an M.Sc. in Clinical Investigation in 2011.
Jaclyn
I. Davis

Jaclyn graduated from Bowdoin College (Brunswick,
ME) in 2010 as a neuroscience major and pre-med
student. In the Florez Lab, she coordinates
a clinical research study examining the genetic
influence on the response to two commonly prescribed
diabetes medications (SUGARMGH: Study to Understand
the Genetics of the Acute Response to Metformin
and Glipizide in Humans). She very much enjoys
spending time with children and volunteers weekly
on the Pediatric Inpatient Unit here at MGH.
In her free time she likes to explore Boston
and travel to visit friends and family.
Chunmei
Huang

Chunmei Huang is currently a fellow in Nephrology
and clinical research at Harvard and MGH. Her
research interest includes risk markers for
type 2 diabetes, diabetic nephropathy, pathogenesis
and new treatment for Ig A nephropathy.
Katherine
R. Littleton

Katie graduated from Colby College in May of
2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and
Spanish. She is currently a Clinical Research
Coordinator working on the Study to Understand
the Genetics of the Acute Response to Metformin
and Glipizide in Humans (SUGARMGH) and Patients
with Hyperglycemia Access the Response to Medication
by Genetics (PHARMGen) taking place at Massachusetts
General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Katie enjoys spending time with her family,
going to the beach, and going on road trips
in her free time.
Geoffrey
A. Walford

Dr. Geoffrey Walford is a post-doctoral fellow
in the Florez Laboratory. Geoff graduated from
Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Medical School
before completing his internal medicine internship
and residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital
in Boston. He pursued subspecialty training
in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at
the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and
continues his clinical activities within the
MGH Diabetes Center. His primary research interests
are the genetics of Type 2 Diabetes and the
effects of the natriuretic peptides on glucose
metabolism.
