University of Wisconsin (Madison, WI) -- Hector F. Deluca, PhD, Harry Steenbock Research Professor, Department of Biochemistry. Drs. Deluca and Thadhani are collaborating to test novel vitamin D compounds in animal models of congestive heart failure (CHF).

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles, CA) -- Phillip H. Koeffler, MD, Mark Goodson Chair in Oncology Research and Director of the Division of Hematology/Oncology. Drs. Koeffler and Thadhani are collaborating to test the effect of activated vitamin D on antimicrobial proteins in the blood of hemodialysis patients.

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, (Boston, MA) -- Peter Kang, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Division of Cardiology. Drs. Kang and Thadhani are collaborating to test the effect of activated vitamin D on animal models of left ventricular hypertrophy and congestive heart failure (CHF).

Project Viva.  Dr. Camargo is studying the relation of maternal intake of vitamin D during pregnancy to risk of wheezing illnesses and eczema in early childhood. The work is part of a larger study called Project Viva, an ongoing birth cohort of >2,000 mother-child pairs in the Boston area. The cohort PI is Matthew Gillman, MD, SM.

Growing Up Today Studies.  Dr. Camargo is studying the relation of dietary intake of vitamin D to risk of asthma in adolescence. This work is part of two larger studies called the Growing Up Today Study (GUTS) and GUTS II, ongoing prospective cohort studies of >26,000 adolescents across the USA. The cohort PIs are Alison Field, DSc and Lindsay Frazier, MD, ScM.

Nurses’ Health Study  and  Health Professionals Follow-up Study.  Dr. Camargo is studying the relation of dietary intake of vitamin D to risk of adult-onset asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in men and women. This work is part of two larger studies: 1) the Nurses' Health study, an ongoing prospective cohort study of >120,000 women across the USA; and 2) the Health Professionals' Follow-up Study, an ongoing prospective cohort study of >50,000 men across the USA. The cohort PIs are Sue Hankinson, RN, ScD, and Walter Willett, MD, DrPH, respectively.

New Zealand Asthma & Allergy Cohort Study.  Dr. Camargo is studying the relation of cord blood 25(OH)D to risk of respiratory infections, wheezing, asthma, eczema, allergic rhinitis, and food allergy. This work is part of a larger study called the New Zealand Asthma & Allergy Cohort Study (NZAACS), an ongoing birth cohort of >1,000 children in Wellington and Christchurch, New Zealand. The cohort PI is Julian Crane, FRACP.

Childhood Origins of Asthma Study .  Dr. Camargo is studying the relation of cord blood 25(OH)D to risk of respiratory infections, wheezing, asthma, eczema, allergic rhinitis, and food allergy. This work is part of a larger study called the Childhood Origins of Asthma Study (COAST), an ongoing birth cohort of almost 300 children in Wisconsin. The cohort PI is Robert Lemanske, MD.
