Biosketch:
Dr. Slatopolsky is the Joseph Friedman Professor of Renal Diseases in Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. In addition, he currently serves as a staff-physician at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He is recognized worldwide as a leader in the study of mineral metabolism, vitamin D and parathyroid hormone in patients with chronic renal failure. Dr. Slatopolsky has over 400 publications in basic and clinical sciences related to mineral metabolism. His journal publications most recently include; American Journal of Physiology, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, TheJournal of Biological Chemistry, Kidney International, American Journal of Kidney Diseases,Journal of Clinical Investigation, Endocrinology, and the Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism. His professional society memberships include; the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the American Physiological Society, the Endocrine Society, the International Society of Nephrology, the American Society of Nephrology, and the Association of American Physicians. Dr. Slatopolsky has received numerous awards; including the National Kidney Foundation’s Award of Excellence in 1997 and the American Society of Nephrology's Belding H. Scribner Award in 1999. In addition, he is an honorary member of the Argentinean Society of Bone and Mineral Metabolism, and Argentinean, Chilean, Colombian and Polish Societies of Nephrology.
Dr. Slatopolsky received his medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina, and he served his internship and residency at Mount Sinai Hospital of Cleveland in Ohio. He subsequently was named an U.S. Public Health Service Post-Doctoral Trainee and completed his training in the Renal Division of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.
