  • Side view of Head and Neck cut in half to show inside of the mouth, nose and throat.
  • Throat (pharynx) is the space that starts behind the nose and ends at the top of the trachea (windpipe).

  • The roof of the mouth (palate) has a hard and soft portion
  • The epiglottis is a flap of tissue that covers the top of the trachea (windpipe) when swallowing.  This prevents food from entering the lungs.
  • The vocal cords are contained in the part of the throat called the Larynx.
