Basic Cancer Research
Basic cancer research underway at the Center for Cancer Research at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center focuses on identification of genes that regulate both normal development and signaling as well as cancer, experimental manipulation of fundamental pathways that are critically altered in malignant tumor cells, and team-based translation of robust technologies to improve patient treatment and care.
The researchers draw from multiple disciplines, ranging from in vivo genetic validation in model organisms to in vitro dissection of mechanisms using cell biology and biochemistry; from genomic and epigenetic analyses of tumors to experimental cancer therapeutics. The faculty advise graduate and medical students, postdoctoral research fellows, and Massachusetts General Hospital residents and clinical fellows, and we have affiliations with several graduate programs at Harvard Medical School, including Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS), Neuroscience, Immunology, and Virology.
Consistent with our mission, we have been founded as a highly interactive program based on open collaboration and shared resources. We aim to maintain the excellent science and translational innovation in the field of cancer research that has resulted.
