MENOPAUSE

MIND BODY PROGRAM FOR PERI/MENOPAUSE

Mind Over Menopause, Benson-Henry's Mind/Body Program for perimenopause/menopause, provides self-care alternatives that relieve symptoms and lead women on the path to healthy behaviors that will last a lifetime.

Over weekly two-and-one-half hour sessions, the program will help you:

  • Reduce/manage physical symptoms including hot flashes, headaches, insomnia, and changes in mood and sexuality
  • Understand the hormonal changes that occur during perimenopause/menopause
  • Regain a sense of control and well-being
  • Make informed choices that can help promote lifelong health

Led by Leslee Kagan, a nurse practitioner and author of the book, Mind Over Menopause, with visits from their staff nutritionist, exercise therapist, and yoga teacher, the program combines lecture, skills training, symptom monitoring, and group sharing to enable patients to take control of their health.

Elements of the program include:

  • Elicitation of the relaxation response through numerous techniques such as diaphragmatic breathing, imagery, and mindfulness
  • Examination and challenging of negative thought patterns
  • Recommendations for proper nutrition, plus a discussion of "food as medicine"
  • Tips for designing an exercise program suited to your needs
  • Information to help in decision-making regarding HT and natural alternatives
  • Assessment of risk factors for cardiac disease and osteoporosis

If you cannot attend the weekly program, they also offer individual counseling/therapy visits and occasional workshops.
