  • American Lung Association’s Quit Smoking page: Facts about smoking, secondhand smoke, and lung disease including emphysema and lung cancer.
  • Smoking and Tobacco Use from the CDC is very comprehensive and provides a great summary of resources for the public
  • Health Effects of Smoking: Information on diseases caused by tobacco use, such as cancer, heart disease, and respiratory diseases. Also find information on the health effects of smoking during pregnancy.
  • "Are You Hooked?": The Hooked on Nicotine Checklist consists of ten questions to help you figure out if giving up tobacco would either be unpleasant or require an effort. article
  • Women and Tobacco: Fact sheet on the number of women who smoke in the U.S. with stats on health outcomes including mortality.
  • Smokefree.gov allows you to choose the help that best fits your needs. You can get immediate assistance in the form of: An online step-by-step cessation guide, Local and state telephone quitlines, National Cancer Institute's telephone quitline and instant messaging service, and publications, which may be downloaded, printed, or ordered interactive
  • Craving Journal to print out, fill out, and identify triggers interactive  
  • Freedom from Smoking Online: The American Lung Association’s free online smoking cessation program. The program consists of 7 modules that guide you through the process of quitting and give you strategies to stay smoke-free in the future interactive
  • Smoking Cessation: Ready, Set, Go!: This page provides you with some of the basic information you need to make a decision to stop smoking and some places to get help.
  • Nicotine Replacement Therapy Options: A list of the FDA-approved nicotine replacement options including the patch, gum, and lozenges. Also includes information on Chantix.
  • Try-to-Stop is a web-based support program sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. It has a free Quit Wizard that personalizes the quitting process based on your preferences and includes tools like calendars, progress meters, and savings calculators to motivate and keep you on track interactive
  • Check out this page to find out which resources and smoking cessation meds your insurance covers
  • When it comes to quitting smoking, many people find online bulletin boards helpful.  If you're interested in participating in a bulletin board community, here are three good places to start:
    • Become an Ex: On this personalized smoking cessation support site, you’ll find plenty of tools, resources, information, and exercises that will help prepare you to quit. Allows you to create a free confidential profile so that you can set a quit date, track your progress online, complete & save exercises, and join the online community. interactive
