The Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine has a close association with the Center for Medical Simulation (CMS), which is an independent educational organization that formed as a collaboration of the Harvard Medical School Departments of Anesthesia and has since expanded to offer educational and research opportunities in many medical disciplines and in the social sciences. It is widely known for its innovative and high-quality programs, including the Institute for Medical Simulation, in which educators and clinicians from around the world participate in course to learn how to use simulation for education in healthcare. Many CMS academic faculty are also members of the DACCPM medical and research faculty and are conducting various research projects about or using simulation techniques. Faculty from other HMS programs are also involved in research and teaching at CMS.
