Department Welcomes Dr. Mazen Maktabi
Dr. Mazen Maktabi has joined the department as chief of the Division of General Surgical Anesthesia. He will oversee several combined anesthesia services, ensure educational priorities for residents and staff, foster multidisciplinary clinical studies, and strengthen existing relationships between surgical and nursing colleagues.
He will also work on faculty development within the division, he said.
Previously, Dr. Maktabi was at the University of Iowa, where he was Associate Residency Program Director. He was extensively committed to resident education and was a mentor for resident academic projects that have been presented at multiple local and national venues. He also served as director of Iowa's case conference and co-chairman of the QA division and was director of division of neuroanesthesia and part of the liver transplant team. He has a wide range of clinical experience.
