My laboratory focuses on defining genetic factors and molecular mechanisms that interconnect circadian rhythms, sleep and metabolism in humans. Current projects include genetic, pharmacogenetic, physiologic and functional characterization of circadian and sleep genes implicated in type 2 diabetes. We are also starting studies on the genetics of pre-eclampsia, a common disorder in pregnant women that strongly predicts risk of metabolic and cardiovascular disease later in life.
