Respiratory Acute Care Unit (RACU)
The Respiratory Acute Care Unit is a specialized unit that provides expert care for patients with prolonged acute respiratory failure. In the RACU, expert clinicians from different disciplines (critical care, respiratory care, nursing, physical therapy, speech pathology, nutrition, case management, and chaplaincy) combine their resources to wean patients off the respirator and organize the process of recovery and rehabilitation. The RACU is co-managed by intensivists from the Anesthesia and the Pulmonary Medicine Departments.
