Same Day Surgical Unit

The Same Day Surgical Unit (SDSU) is a 10-room operating suite in which approximately 9,500 cases are performed annually. The cases are a mix of outpatient procedures and procedures that may require a short postoperative hospital stay. The surgical services that utilize the SDSU include General Surgery, Gynecology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Oral Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Podiatry, and Surgical Oncology. The anesthesia care in the SDSU is provided by a core group of twelve anesthesiologists. Our anesthetic regimens range from monitored anesthesia care to complex regional techniques to general anesthesia. In addition, a nursing-based conscious sedation program provides care for patients receiving local anesthesia and sedation, led by an anesthesiologist and medically directed by surgeons institutionally trained in the use of this technique.
