Programs:

The LPS is the primary source of training on medical-legal issues within the Department of Psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital. We are the site of the MGH/McLean/Harvard Medical School Forensic Psychiatry Residency Program, one of the first forensic psychiatry fellowships approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Our teaching includes a weekly seminar program, a weekly Landmark Case series, an elective for psychiatry residents, and other offerings to medical students, residents, and graduate clinicians. In addition to teaching within the MGH, members of the LPS are available to the legal, corporate, and medical communities to conduct case conferences, seminars, and didactic programs on a broad range of topics. These programs have included the right to refuse treatment, duty to protect third parties, risk management, legal and ethical issues in psychotherapist sexual misconduct, domestic violence, sexual harassment, the behavioral health aspects of disasters, and violence in the workplace.

The LPS has sponsored numerous programs for non-clinicians. These include programs for judges, attorneys, and the business community through the Flaschner Institute, Judicial Institute of the Trial Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, American Bar Association, Mental Health Legal Advisors Committee, Boston Bar Association, Massachusetts bar Association, and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education.
