Program Coordinator
Tracie Goodness, B.S.
Tracie Goodness graduated from the University of Michigan in May 2005 with a B.S. in Biology. During her undergraduate career, she developed an interest in psychology after doing volunteer work and community outreach in HIV/AIDS awareness. While volunteering, Tracie explained health information and testing procedures to interested individuals in high-risk populations, and was trained in HIV test results counseling. While at Michigan, she worked at the Medical School as research staff in the Molecular & Behavioral Neuroscience Institute for Dr. Geoffrey Murphy, studying the neurobiological substrates of learning and memory. As research staff, she helped genotype laboratory transgenic mice and observed water maze experiments. From these experiments she assisted in data collection and entry, the results of which was used to observe possible correlations of behavior patterns observed in the different strains of mice. After graduating, Tracie spent time working for the Department of Environmental Quality for the State of Michigan. While at the DEQ, she tracked public water systems in the region to ensure compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act. In addition to compliance duties, she served as a liaison between the general public and the DEQ and as a district representative during violations and public notice events. While employed at the state, Tracie began volunteering as a counselor at a local crisis hotline, providing counseling, resources, and referrals as needed. After her time at the DCRP, Tracie plans to combine her interests in biology and psychology by pursuing a PhD in clinical psychology with a focus in health psychology.
