Qualifications for Prospective Applicants
The MGH Psychology
Internship adheres to the selection policies and procedures as outlined in the attached APPIC Guildelines (see links at bottom of page.). This internship site agrees to abide by the APPIC policy that no person at this training facility will solicit, accept or use any ranking-related information from any intern applicant.
Ten interns will be admitted to the MGH Psychology Internship in Clinical Psychology this year.
In order to be considered as a prospective candidate, all applicants must
1) submit a completed Supplemental MGH/HMS Psychology internship application and accompanying documents listed on the application by the specified deadlines and
2) submit the required AAPI application
3) meet the following minimum criteria for consideration:
- Three years of full-time graduate study in a doctoral program (preferably APA -approved programs in Clinical Psychology but will accept applicants from other programs)
- Two years of clinical experience, at least one of which must be supervised practicum experience.
- Verification of Internship Eligibility and Readiness Form completed by graduate program director
- Given the specialty nature of the CBT, Behavioral Medicine, and Neuropsychology tracks, it is unlikely that a candidate will be well suited for these tracks in addition to the Adult or Child tracks
- Typically, competitive applicants for the CBT, Behaviorial Medicine, and Neuropsychology tracks have significant clinical research experience in the form of completed publications and presentations at professional meetings.
- For the Child track, if a candidate has limited experience with children, they are usually not competitive in the selection process.
- For the Adult track, if the applicant is not proficient in scoring the Rorschach using the Exner Comprehensive Scoring System, they will not be competitive.
- For the Child track, the ability to score the Rorschach using the Exner Comprehensive Scoring system is preferred. However, if an applicant is not experienced in this, the applicant should still apply.
