George I. Papakostas, M.D.
George I. Papakostas, M.D., received his B.A. in mathematics and chemistry from New York University in 1994, and his M.D.
from the same university in 1998. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Carney Hospital at Tufts University School of Medicine and
his residency training in adult psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital. His research interests include:
1) Pharmacotherapy of treatment-resistant Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), with an emphasis on augmentation strategies; 2) Pattern of Symptom
Change during the Pharmacotherapy of MDD and 3) Biological predictors and correlates of clinical response to pharmacotherapy in MDD, with an
emphasis on Neuroendocrinology and Metabolism. He has also been awarded with the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP)
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychopharmacology, the Thomas P. Hackett Memorial Award for Excellence in Research from
the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital in association with Harvard Medical School (HMS), the Kaplan Fellowship in
Depression Research (HMS), the Livingston Award in Psychiatric Research (HMS), a Young Investigator Award from the American Foundation for
Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and a New Investigator Award from the New Clinical Drug Evaluation Unit (NCDEU) at the National Institute of Mental
Health.
