David Mischoulon, MD, PhD

David Mischoulon, MD, PhD, graduated in 1994 from the combined MD-PhD program at Boston University School of Medicine. He earned a PhD in biochemistry during this time, and authored several original papers in the area of liver biochemistry. He completed an internship in General Medicine at Carney Hospital in 1995. He then entered the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Adult Psychiatry Residency Training Program, from which he graduated in 1998, after serving as Chief Resident in Psychopharmacology. Dr. Mischoulon is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and Director of Alternative Remedy Studies at the Depression Clinical and Research Program (DCRP) of the MGH.

Dr. Mischoulon has received both a NARSAD Young Investigator award and a PMRTP fellowship from the American Psychiatric Association in 1998, and a second NARSAD Young Investigator award in 2000. He was awarded a K-23 mentored award from National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) in 2001 to study omega-3 fatty acids in the treatment of depression. His areas of interest include complementary and alternative treatments for psychiatric disorders, and treatment of depression in minority populations. He has authored or co-authored more than 50 original articles, review articles, and book chapters, and has also co-edited a textbook on natural medications for psychiatric disorders. He has been an invited speaker at various sites around the country, and has won several awards. In addition to his research activities, Dr. Mischoulon has been an active teacher in the MGH psychiatry residency program and in various MGH psychiatry continuing medical education programs. He also cares for patients in the MGH psychiatry outpatient clinic.

Dr. Mischoulon was appointed as Associate Director of the Partners Health Care Systems Center for Alternative Medicine in Psychiatry in 2000, and as Assistant Program Director at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology General Clinical Research Center (MIT GCRC) in 2004.
