Cost
In the first year of the Humanized Mouse Program’s operation (2009 - 2010), five mice will be made available to each collaborating investigator free of charge to perform a pilot feasibility study. Thereafter, collaborating investigators will be charged $200 per BLT mouse used in their experiments. The remaining costs of generating each mouse will be assumed by Program funds. In subsequent years, collaborating investigators will be charged for all costs involved in generating the BLT mice used in their experiments, and all costs the Program incurs in performing those experiments. All costs, including salary costs for Program personnel, will be included in a single per mouse charge. For investigators submitting NIH or other external grants, or planning future experiments, these total costs are expected to be in the range of $1000 per BLT mouse used. Please note that the cost recovery policies of the Humanized Mouse Program are subject to change pending approval by MGH Research Management.
How to Pay
Administrators of the Humanized Mouse Platform will handle billing responsibilities. Billing to accounts within Partners affiliates will occur through internal funds transfer initiated by the platform. Ragon investigators who do not retain research or discretionary funds at a Partners HealthCare institution will instead receive an invoice that they are expected to pay within 45 days of receipt. In both Partners and non-Partners cases, it is the responsibility of the end-user investigator to ensure that the fund number s/he provides can be used to support animal research costs.
